Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is part of our core business, and our technicians are fully qualified to support your assets’ integrity through a variety of NDT techniques.

Our NDT services have been used during routine inspections and standalone, structural integrity projects.  We can overcome the complexities of any structure: we have applied non-destructive testing to assets including gantry cranes, slew rings, lifeboat davits, submarine tail shafts and pressure vessels.  Our critical load path NDT services can also be used on saturation dive systems, air dive systems and ROV systems.

Our ‘Ferret’ Marine Tail Shaft Inspection Tool was designed and built by IMES engineers to assess the integrity of a submarine tail shaft. Inspections take place in situ during dry docking periods, eliminating the time-consuming and costly need to remove a tail shaft. Once positioned, the tool automatically completes high res longitudinal, lateral and rotational scans of the inner and outer surface. All data is securely logged for later retrieval and analysis.

Subsea-Diagnostic-Tooling-Riser-Inspection-Camera-System

Our ATEX-rated Riser Inhaul Camera System (RICS) provides a visual record of riser connections and removals, and investigates any damage and corrosion to lower and upper I-Tubes, and the void in between.  The HD cameras provide live observations of the safe angle of approach and release of the riser, as winch wires and rigging pass through the lower I-Tube bell mouth.  With RICS, there is no need for ROVs or divers: the system is accompanied by an A-Frame, winch, sheave and rugged umbilical.  Download the brochure to find out more.
